The ASC Safety & Quality Assessment

The Assessment fills a need for ASC Quality data which the ASC can share with interested payers, employers, or other stakeholders. Participation demonstrates your center’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality care, directly aligned with the value proposition of the ASC industry.

There is no cost to participate, and it takes approximately 20 minutes to take and submit the assessment. Our next submission period is February 1 – March 15, 2025.

What is the ASC Safety & Quality Assessment?

The ASC Safety & Quality Assessment is a Quality platform that demonstrates ASC performance on various quality data points. Each center reports their data into a simple platform, and the entire process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Resources are provided to foster improvement.

Why Should I Participate?

Participation demonstrates your center’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality care, directly aligned with the value proposition of the ASC industry. One can utilize the results from the assessment to implement best practice policies, procedures, and processes to enhance the safe, quality care provided at the ASC.

Employee Health Program

According to the CDC, elements of an employee health program include:

  • Education and training regarding risks encountered in the work environment including infection control risks;
  • Immunization program;
  • Management of potentially infectious exposures and illnesses;
  • Management of personnel records;
  • Compliance with applicable state, local, or Federal regulations.

The CDC offers Work@Health employer training program on their website to promote workplace wellness.

Hand Hygiene Compliance

The ASCQC has assembled a Hand Hygiene Toolkit that has a variety of resources and information that may be used to supplement your current processes to improve hand hygiene practices.  

Participation in External Benchmarking
  • This External Benchmarking Resource provides a variety of resources that can be explored for external clinical benchmarking opportunities. 
  • This CMS Dashboard-ASC Measures is offered by CMS as a Facility Compare Dashboard of ASC Measures and represents screen shots of the Quality Reporting Center – ASCQR Program . Using this tool enables you to look over publicly reported data for your ASC and see how it compares to Hospital Outpatient Departments and other ASCs with related measures submission.  

 

Participation in Surveys on Patient Safety Culture

The AHRQ provides an opportunity for ASCs to participate in an ASC Patient Safety Culture survey. The ASCQC website has a Resource Page which provides linkages to the AHRQ ASC Patient Safety Culture Survey as well as their corresponding toolkit.

 

Safe Injection Practices

The ASCQC has assembled a Safe Injection Practices Toolkit that has a variety of resources and information that may be used to supplement your current processes to enhance existing injection practices.

Assessment Validation Process

A random sample of participating centers will be selected to complete a validation process. This will involve providing documentation to support the responses to a group of questions included in the Assessment.

Who can participate in the assessment?

Any ambulatory surgical center can participate in the assessment.

Are submissions limited to a specific number of centers?

No, during the submission period of February 1 – March 15th, submissions are opened to anyone that completes the assessment during this period of time.

What does it cost to participate with the assessment?

There is no cost to participate.

How long does it take to complete the assessment and submit it?

It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and submit the assessment.

Do I need to complete in one sitting or can I do it in multiple sittings?

You do not need to complete all at one time. You will be able to go back and complete the submission as long as you do so on the same device within the submission time period.

Do participating centers receive an aggregate report along with their center specific report?

YES, each participating center will receive a center specific and aggregate report.

What types of questions are included on the assessment?

The questions relate to the following categories: Demographics, Patient Experience, Patient Safety, Hospital Visits, Admissions and Transfers, Culture of Safety, Infection Control & Prevention, Medication Management, Quality & Performance Improvement, Governance, Human Resources

How do I participate?

Access the link on the ASC Quality Collaboration website (ascquality.org). Effective 2025 and thereafter submissions are accepted between February 1 – March 15th.

If I participate annually, do I need to complete the entire survey again?
We encourage annual submissions and this requires completing the entire survey.
Can I receive a duplicate center specific and aggregate report if I cannot locate the original one provided?

Yes, use the contact information to reach out to the ASCQC to obtain a duplicate report.

If a payor, patient or other stakeholder contacts the ASCQC for my center specific report or an aggregate report, will the ASCQC provide it to them?

No, your center controls the dissemination of your center specific data as well as the aggregate report you receive.

Is my submission confidential?
The assessment platform is HIPAA compliant. No outcome data is currently included in the Assessment. Participating centers control the dissemination of reports.
